A Clinical Study on the Postpartum Depression of Traditional Gynecologic Outpatient Clinic




Abstract
Objective Postpartum depression is a kind of serious problem which influences on the parturients, her family and the growth of the newborn infant. It usually arises in 10 to 15% of the parturients. If they are not treated early enough the unhappy seriousness can be resulted. This study was undertaken to know paturients¢¥ and postpartum situation of a traditional gynecologic outpatient clinic for preventing and treatment of
postpartum depression.
Methods: It were studied that 26 parturients who visited to KyongJu oriental hospital gynecologic clinic of Dongguk medical center, from December 20, 1999 to August 19, 2000 with many factors contained with Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale(EPDS).
Results: Among 26 parturients, 6 parturients(23.08%) had significant postnatal illness by EPDS. Their chief complaints were various, but in totally polyarthralgia was the most frequent chief complaint.
Conclusion: The prevalence of postpartum depression by EPDS in parturients visited the traditional gynecologic outpatient clinic was higher than total postpartum depression prevalence. For preventing and treatment of postpartum depression, EPDS is useful and recommendable.
